Enacting Climate Solutions

Driving Question: What is the role of behavior, policy, and innovation in supporting climate change solutions?
Now that we understand the main sources of carbon emissions and promising solutions to decarbonization, it’s important to consider strategies we can use to implement these solutions. This lesson asks you to create a plan for reducing emissions in one Grand Challenge and consider the most effective actions at the personal, business, and government levels.
- Analyze the impact of individual and collective behavior, government policy, and technological innovation in developing decarbonization solutions within one Grand Challenge.
- Evaluate the interaction between these three areas and identify potential areas where they might work together and where they might conflict.
Opener
There are many creative and effective climate solutions, but how do we put them into place? This activity will help you look at how a climate solution can be implemented through different levers of power: individual, business, and government.
Activity
Create a plan for reducing emissions in a Grand Challenge of your choice by analyzing the best possible strategies for reducing emissions and outlining ways that different groups can help support these solutions.
Article
With a problem as complex and global as climate change, effectively implementing climate action isn’t always easy. We’ll think about how we implement solutions along with the levers of action (individual, business, and government) that can help us achieve our goals.
Closer
Create an advertisement calling for action from the lever of power you think has the great potential to combat climate change. In doing so, you’ll reflect on the importance of emissions-reducing solutions and the different groups that can support these solutions.
