De-Extinction: Are Extinct Species History?

Have scientists brought extinct species back to life using ancient DNA? Should they? Dr. Beth Shapiro will share her ideas on the technical, ethical, and ecological challenges of de-extinction, discussing the "dire wolf" pups she brought to life after the species died out 12,500 years ago. Delve into this exciting (and controversial) research. Leave the session with a story that connects us to the distant past, and a guide to engage students in deep thinking.

Plus: We'll be randomly selecting ten session attendees to receive a free copy of Dr. Shapiro's book, How to Clone a Mammoth. No purchase necessary, offer open to US residents 18+ only.
