Narrative Data Statement
OER Project
Overview
OER Project provides free, comprehensive online curriculum resources aligned to United States school standards. We have designed the platform, which is intended for use by teachers and students, with an emphasis on privacy, accessibility, and open educational practices. This statement describes how data is collected, used, and protected, and outlines the platform’s approach to privacy, security, and accessibility.
Data Collection and Use
User Types and Data Collected:
- Teachers: Teacher account creation and log-in are required for access to certain resources (for example: lesson guides, event registration, and forum participation). When registering, teachers must provide their name, email address, and school affiliation.
- Students: No student log-in or account creation is required. Students access curriculum materials anonymously via links provided by teachers or by navigating to the website. No student personal identifiable information (PII) or student work is collected or stored.
- General visitors: Non-logged-in users can browse public curriculum content without providing any personal information.
Automatically Collected Information:
- The platform uses cookies and analytics tools to gather nonpersonal data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and usage patterns. This information is used to improve site functionality and user experience.
No Student Data Collection:
- OER Project does not request, collect, or store student PII or student work. All student use is anonymous and no authentication is required.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
- No sale or commercial use: OER Project does not sell or profit from any user data, including data from teachers or students.
- Third-party service providers: Data may be shared with trusted service providers solely for the purpose of operating or improving the platform (for example: hosting and analytics). These providers are contractually obligated to protect user data and may not use it for other purposes.
- No targeted advertising: The platform does not engage in targeted, behavioral, or contextual advertising, nor does it send user data to advertising networks.
- Legal compliance: Data may be disclosed as required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users and the platform.
Data Security and Retention
- OER Project implements reasonable security measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
- Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide services and comply with legal obligations.
- The platform does not currently have a public vulnerability disclosure program for security researchers.
