STUDENT MATERIALSSTUDENT MATERIALSS-1CLIMATE JOURNAL – CLIMATE JOURNAL: HOW WE KEEP COOL AND STAY WARM RESEARCHCLIMATE PROJECT / LESSON 2.5 ACTIVITYPreparation• Download the Climate Journal worksheet or use your class journalPurposePeriodically throughout this course, you will be asked to work in your Climate Journal as an opportunity to reflect and write informally on what you’re learning. The Climate Journal will help you track the progression of your thinking as you confront the complexity of climate change.ProcessIt’s now time to take a few minutes to reflect on your learning and write in your Climate Journal. Your journal entry will include a narrative portion where you’ll respond to a few prompts (or share other thoughts on the course and your learning), and a component where you will review, annotate, and add to two active bullet lists. In one list you’ll record the topics you find most interesting, whose about which you hope to gain more knowledge; the other list is for topics and areas you find challenging, ones for which you may need more information or support. The narrative section is also a way to privately share your individual thinking and learning process with your teacher. Step 1: Reflection Review the prompts below and take a quiet moment to reflect:• Which Solutions from your research have you seen promoted in the CAPs you have read? Would those Solutions be useful in your community for Grand Challenge 5: How We Keep Cool and Stay Warm? Why or why not? • Which Action Opportunities seem likely to have the biggest impact on reducing emissions in your community for Grand Challenge 5? Explain why.• What changes in local or state government policy would best encourage the adoption of Solutions to Grand Challenge 5: How We Keep Cool and Stay Warm for people in your community? What could you and your classmates do to promote the adoption of such a policy? You will have time to write freely in response to the above prompts and to review, annotate, and revise your two bullet lists. Remember that this journaling is an opportunity to share your personal thinking, learning, and questions directly with your teacher, who will review the journals regularly.
