Women in History and Science in Three Lessons
From the long nineteenth century to today, women’s participation in political reform movements and their contributions to science led to monumental historical transformations and discoveries. In the three lessons below, students learn about women’s important political and scientific achievements during this period and then use their inquiry and research skills to investigate a woman who inspires them.
In this introductory lesson, students explore women’s contributions to reform movements of the long nineteenth century including the abolitionist and women’s rights movements.
This lesson helps students understand women’s scientific breakthroughs, focusing on women’s accomplishments in astrophysics.
