Teaching the Cold War in Latin America
Widen the frame and a fuller picture of the Cold War comes into focus. In this workshop, you’ll explore how Retro Report’s Cold War in Latin America collection and OER Project resources can help students see the conflict as more than a simple U.S.-Russia dynamic. You’ll dig into short films, lessons, primary source analysis activities, hexagonal thinking lessons, and an interactive map that traces the Cold War’s reach across Latin America. Walk away with materials that help students examine the conflict through stories, maps, and a wider view of its global impact.
About the facilitator: David Olson serves as the director of education at Retro Report, where he designs free curriculum and professional development. He taught high school for more than a decade and has taught political science courses at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
