Explore the past. Make sense of the present. Look to the future.WORLD HISTORY PROJECT: 1200 TO THE PRESENTWorld History Project (WHP), from the OER Project family, is a high school history course like no other. Easily aligned to your state’s social studies standards, WHP provides teachers with the tools to turn every student into a young historian.World History Project: 1200 to the PresentBecause every school, district, and state is different in its approach to world history, we offer WHP in three configurations: Origins to the Present, 1200 to the Present, and 1750 to the Present.1200 to the Present allows students to establish a global perspective and context with which to understand the origins of our modern world, and why this knowledge matters. By exploring historical evidence and diverse narratives, students connect the people, places, and events of history to understand the problems of today. Get ready for an adventure that starts in 1200 and makes historians of us all.Big ideas. Big skills.WHP features skills and approaches that prepare students to become the next generation of great thinkers and problem solvers:•Critical thinking: Students consider important questions, gather and analyze evidence, and build informed arguments in a way that is applicable across all disciplines.•Reading: Students use a structured reading approach called Three Close Reads against a variety of primary and secondary sources to build close reading skills which will help in the classroom and beyond.•Writing: Clear expectations, regular feedback, and plenty of writing. It’s our not-so-secret formula to improving student writing. And it works.Plus, WHP articles include audio versions and multiple Lexile-levels to make the course more accessible to all.Usable history, narrative powerWHP emphasizes the importance of usable history. Connecting the dots of history—people, places, and events—into coherent narratives helps students make sense of, and prepare for, the world they live in today. And the “s” in “narratives” is essential: students should recognize the danger of a single story. The usability of history and the power of narratives are concepts that are embedded in engaging articles and videos featuring experts and educators. WHP emphasizes eight core skills:•Reading•Writing•Claim testing•Sourcing•Causation•Comparison•Contextualization•Continuity and change over time
