OER PROJECT: CLIMATE COURSE PATHWAYSOER Project: Climate lessons are designed to be flexible and easily integrated into your classroom setting. The course can be taught as a full-semester program, through specific pathways, or as standalone lessons, which allows teachers to tailor the curriculum to meet specific learning goals, schedules, and student needs. Whether you choose to teach the entire sequence for a comprehensive investigation of climate content or select individual lessons to focus on particular topics of interest, course materials follow a clear, cohesive structure to maximize student engagement and learning.Explore a range of course pathways below.Full Course Outline (Semester-Long)The full OER: Project Course Pathways course, including the culminating civic action project in Unit 5, is designed to fit in a single semester, making it ideal to teach as an elective course.Climate Change Overview (3-4 weeks)This pathway is an in-depth introduction to climate change and allows students ample time to explore the most important causes, impacts, and solutions. These overview lessons are a great first exposure to climate education.Policy Pathway (3-4 weeks)Government policy is essential to supporting the innovations and adaptations we need to confront climate change. This course pathway focuses on the intersection of climate change and policy and will equip students with an understanding of the role of climate policies and how individuals can play an important part in getting new policies enacted.Climate Change 101 (3-5 days)In this short lesson series, students will be introduced to the essentials of climate change. This lesson plan is a great first exposure to climate knowledge and can be integrated into any class you teach. It’s a great place to start if you want to introduce your students to the knowledge and skills needed to address climate change but don’t have much extra time in your schedule.Decarbonization Pathway (3-5 days)This course pathway offers a brief introduction to the idea of decarbonization and why it’s essential to reduce carbon emissions to reach our climate goals. This is a great way to incorporate two short lessons into any class you teach, lessons that will help students understand one of the most significant problems of climate change and provide a framework for evaluating solutions. This pathway can be taught independently or as an extension to the Intro to Climate Change lesson series.
