Chart a Course with Maps: Geography in Social Studies

Teaching with maps can take students places. In this workshop, you’ll explore how to use maps to build geography skills and deepen social studies learning. You’ll look at practical ways to teach with maps in world history and leave with ready-to-use resources you can bring straight into class. Whether you want students to zoom in and out, analyze change over time, or ask better questions, this session will help you put maps to work.

About the facilitator: Bennett Sherry is one of the historians working on OER Project. He received his PhD in world history from the University of Pittsburgh and has taught courses in world history, human rights, and the modern Middle East. Bennett is a recipient of the Pioneer in World History award from the World History Association, and is coauthor of The Long Nineteenth Century, 1750–1914: Crucible of Modernity (2nd ed).
